Patrycja Hyodo-Malewska is a Polish-Japanese writer, haiku poet, speech-language therapist, publisher and digital creator. She founded meico.studio, a Polish studio, publisher and shop inspired by Japanese culture, literature, craftsmanship and the daily ritual of tea.

Background
I grew up in Poland in a Polish-Japanese family. Both cultures are part of my everyday life, so my work brings together Polish linguistic sensitivity and Japanese ways of observing nature, craft and attentiveness.
I speak about Japan without drawing a rigid line between “here” and “there”. I am interested in ordinary experience: language, literature, food, beauty, family stories and the ways cultures meet within one person’s life.
Literature and haiku
I write and publish books connected with Japan, including haiku poetry, publications for adults and Japanese folk tales for children. For me, haiku is the art of holding a fleeting moment—a concise form that teaches close observation and economy of language.
Through meico.studio I develop an independent publishing programme and promote work by invited poets. Explore the English book catalogue. Please note that the haiku books are Polish–Japanese editions and the illustrated children’s books are in Polish.
Speech-language therapy and research
I am also a speech-language therapist and the author of academic publications in pedagogy and communication. My public researcher profile and list of works are available through ORCID: 0000-0001-7628-5434.
Publications and recognition
My academic writing addresses language development, reading and specific learning difficulties. One publication is Dysleksja — problem definicyjny, występowanie i korelacja płci, published in Przegląd Pedagogiczny (DOI: 10.34767/PP.2021.02.07).
In 2024, one of my haiku received a distinction in the Polish national “Cherries and Willows” haiku competition, documented on the Polish Haiku Association’s list of laureates.

meico.studio
I founded meico.studio as a place where literature, Japanese craftsmanship and tea ritual meet. I work with Japanese makers and producers, selecting objects and teas whose origins can be traced to particular people, places and traditions.

Editorial roles
Articles on the meico.studio blog are produced in two roles. Some guides are written by Tomasz Socha. Patrycja Hyodo-Malewska is the author responsible for the substance — tea selection, contact with the Otsukaen plantation and fact-checking on Japan. Both roles are credited on every article.
